Pittville Pump Room

What is today known as the Pittsville Pump Room, was originally planned as the centerpiece of the estate of Joseph Pitt, built circa 1825-1830. During the Regency period, Pitt's Pump Room was the largest and most lavish site where the renowned Cheltenham Spa Waters could be taken. Visitors can still taste these famed waters from the building's original marble and scagliola pump, now pumped electronically from the 80-ft-deep well. The Pump Room Museum houses Cheltenham's Gallery of Fashion in what was formerly the estate's Library, Reading Room and Billiard Room on the upper floor. The permanent display includes original costumes from 1760 to present day; back-panels relate Cheltenham history through prints and photographs. On-site gift shop, refreshments available.
