Musee Carnavalet

A former 16th-century mansion purchased by the city of Paris in 1866 for its historical collections was joined, in 1989, with the 17th-century Hotel Le Pelletier de Saint-Fargeau to form the extensive Musee Carnavalet. The history of Paris, from its origins to the present day, is traced in the museums large collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures, prints and decorative arts, with major collections devoted to the revolutionary period and the 19th and 20th centuries featured as well.
